The Board of Trustees determines school policy, which is implemented by the Head of School, the administration, teachers and staff. 

The Board also has responsibility for the financial health of the school.

All Board members are volunteers. Many are from the Brown School community; however, some are not, and their perspective is also highly valued. 

Current members:

Lisa Biega

Lisa Biega joined the Board of Trustees in 2017. She is a Research Scientist at the New York State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center, permitting laboratories to perform forensic DNA testing as part of the Forensic Identity Program and evaluating ignition interlock devices for use in New York as a member of the Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device Program. She is also co-webmaster of the Wadsworth.org website and science writer for the website. Lisa has a BA in Microbiology and two minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Miami University and a MS in Molecular Pathogenesis from University at Albany. She and her husband Richard are proud parents of two Brown School graduates and one current Brown School student.

Carlo Cioffi

Carlo Cioffi joined the Board of Trustees in 2011. He is married and is the parent of three children. His daughter Grace attended Brown School from 2006 to 2008. Carlo graduated from Siena College with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting. He earned his Certified Public Accounting License in 1987, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Carlo is currently the CFO of Plank Construction Services LLC and Highbridge Development LLC located in Schenectady, NY. He also serves on the Board of the Salvation Army of Schenectady and Jack’s Place.

Ann Marsh

Ann Marsh is an Audit Supervisor at the New York State Office of State Comptroller (OSC) in the Division of State Government Accountability. Prior to transferring to OSC, Ann was Director of the Rate Setting Unit at the New York State Education Department responsible for establishing  tuition rates for special education programs throughout New York State. Ann earned her  Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Siena College and her Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Public Finance from SUNY Albany. Ann is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Scott Morley

Scott Morley has been a Brown School parent since 2008 and joined the Brown board in 2015. He is an attorney with Martin, Shudt, Wallace, DiLorenzo & Johnson in Troy, NY. Scott has served on a number of community boards, including Rensselear Land Trust. He also served with the United States Marine Corps. Scott lives in Colonie with his wife Nancy and sons, Owen and Mack, who both attend Brown.

Tina Sciocchetti

Tina Sciocchetti is a partner in the Albany, NY office the national law firm, Nixon Peabody. Tina specializes in the areas of government investigations and white collar crime, data privacy, and education. She counsels educational institutions on matters involving student privacy, sexual misconduct, school safety and social media safety. Tina is an ardent supporter of Brown School, having witnessed the incredible impact of the school and its staff on lives of her two children. Tina joined the Board of Trustees in 2017.

Catherine Smitas

Catherine Smitas is the proud mother of two Brown School students, who began at the school at ages 4 and 2. She is an Internal Medicine physician in Niskayuna. She received her undergraduate degree in History and Science from Harvard College, where she was also the coxswain and captain of the lightweight rowing team. She earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester and completed residency at Brown University. She is passionate about helping the elderly maintain their quality of life and independence. She is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a board member of the New York chapter of the organization. She served on the board of CapitalCare Medical Group from 2010 to 2017. Catherine and her family live in Guilderland.
