The Brown School Media Center is an intellectual and social space that supports and complements the educational goals and objectives of our preschool through high school learning community. Through a fixed/flexible schedule, the library promotes reading and the development of independent library users in a welcoming environment.

Students, teachers and families are encouraged to browse, explore and use the library resources while receiving assistance in carrying out research-based activities for personal and/or educational purposes.

Media Center happenings range from:

  • Preschool storytimes
  • Internet safety activities
  • Youth Media Award predictions
  • Students read books nominated for awards, predicting which they think should win and throw a party the day the actual winners are announced!
  • Door decorating, guess the book
  • Participation in An Hour of Code
  • Book Buzz Club
  • Author visits
  • Celebrations like Poem in Your Pocket Day
  • Ethical use of information instruction
  • Book club at lunch

The goal is to develop lifelong readers who are effective users and producers of information.

Our teachers integrate technology into the curriculum for the purpose of enhancing learning opportunities. Our students are thus positioned to build a body of knowledge that is not confined within the walls of the classroom, but transcends the limitations of geographic location and the length of the school day.

New media systems and web-based technologies allow students to explore a problem or question from different perspectives. Students may actively investigate topics and themes along a path that is more consistent with their learning style.

By integrating new media into the core domains, teachers can tailor instruction to individual needs, intellectual and creative passions, and interests. In this way, students exercise more control over their learning, which better prepares them to succeed in school and meet various challenges they will encounter throughout life.

In addition to integration in the classroom, technology specific courses are offered to the older students.

About Brown School

The Brown School community is strong and supportive, and we believe that our students deserve not only an academic education but also a place to enjoy traditions and experiences that they cherish for years to come. Our faculty and administration are committed to mindfully educating each individual student in a nurturing and collaborative environment.

Our School Day

Our school song states that “Brown School is joy, friendship, and laughter. Memories dear, now and long after. Working each day, growing together. Brown School is learning and love.” Even though we have modernized our teaching and offerings, these words hold true even decades after they were written.

Beyond the School Day

Brown School students of all ages have a plethora of options available after the school day is over. Whether it is partaking in the after school or Plus programs that offer a purposeful place for students while parents are working, exploring new interests or established hobbies, or getting together beyond the walls of our school, our Brown School community is strong.
